Q&A with Past Grand Archon Kim Hildred

In celebration of Women's History Month, Grand Archon Tess Stovall sits down with a series of Phi Sigma Sigma sisters to share their stories, advice and how our sisterhood made a lasting impact in their lives. Read more stories, here.

Kim Hildred served as Grand Archon from 1988-1992. She is an alumna of Phi Sigma Sigma's Gamma Epsilon Chapter at Waynesburg College. Professionally, Kim worked as a policy and program consultant having served in both the executive and legislative branch to improve government operations and strengthen Social Security programs.

Tess Stovall: What do you believe is the biggest asset of Phi Sigma Sigma membership? And how has it played a role in your life?

KH: The greatest asset of Phi Sigma Sigma membership is the opportunity for personal growth and leadership development. During my college years in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Phi Sig provided a unique environment to learn from diverse individuals, shaping my skills and laying the foundation for my future as a person, professional and leader.

TS: After graduation, you remained connected to the organization both as a volunteer as well as through the friendships you forged. Why do you believe it is important to stay connected to our sisterhood? And what benefits does it offer sisters after graduation?

KH: Staying connected deepens established relationships and fosters new ones. My closest friends today are those who volunteered with me for the Fraternity; friendships that would never have formed if I hadn’t remained engaged.

Customized volunteer opportunities based on our interest, talents, and availability offer immeasurable rewards. Additionally, supporting the Foundation financially helps develop future leaders, strengthening both sisters and their chapters.

TS: You mentioned that many of your Phi Sig friendships were forged after you graduated. Can you tell me about a Phi Sigma Sigma sister who has had a significant influence in your life?

KH: There are two Supreme Council officers who significantly influenced my journey: Grand Archon Jeanine Goldberg and Director of Undergraduates Beverly Parkes. Their mentorship taught me the history of Phi Sigma Sigma, and the importance of volunteering to the perpetuity of Fraternity, inspiring me to become a volunteer. Their love of and deep commitment to the Fraternity enabled our sisterhood to survive dark times. They remain an inspiration to me.
