Phi Sigma Sigma's Gamma Theta Chapter Alumnae Donate $5,000 in Celebration of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Bicentennial Anniversary
Phi Sigma Sigma’s Gamma Theta Chapter at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) marked their alma mater’s bicentennial anniversary by donating over $5,000 to the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation. Through this generous donation, alumnae are investing in today’s sisters and the future of Phi Sigma Sigma.
“It is remarkable what a group of passionate, strong women can do when they come together,” said Tess Stovall, Grand Archon of Phi Sigma Sigma. “I am proud to see so many alumnae continue to invest in the bonds of sisterhood, celebrate milestones together and give back to the next generations of sisters. Each and every member of the Gamma Theta Chapter has played a vital role in helping support our sisterhood and advancing the legacy of our Founders.”
On September 27-29, Gamma Theta alumnae from across the country returned to campus to reconnect as part of the institution’s bicentennial celebration. Over 75 alumnae were in attendance. A Blue and Gold Dinner launched the weekend, with stories and songs from their undergraduate years. During a Saturday “Block Party” event, Phi Sigma Sigma alumnae were clearly the largest group in attendance for the bicentennial reunion.
In addition to the in-person celebration, the Gamma Theta alumnae launched a fundraising campaign in support of the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation. More than 50 sisters contributed, raising over $5,000.
“We are so proud of the Gamma Theta Chapter and their substantial investment in our sisterhood,” said Vanessa Freeman Zerhusen, President of the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation. “I want to thank all of the sisters who made a gift in celebration of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s bicentennial. Their immense generosity ensures the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation can continue to make a positive impact on today’s collegiate sisters.”
The Gamma Theta Chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma was the first national sorority established at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on April 10, 1976, in an era when women comprised fewer than 20% of the student population. The chapter initiated over 275 sisters between 1976 – 1998.
